E-Residency card is a great tool to open manage your company online with ease from almost anywhere in the world. In this article, we will try to provide you a quick guide on how you can apply and obtain one.

Before we start, we would like to note that e-Residency does not confer citizenship, tax residency, residence or right of entry to Estonia or to the European Union. It is not a visa or residence permit. However, it will enable you to run your company in Estonia in a remote way.
Step 1. Collect Documents for Application
In order to submit your application, you will need to prepare:

  1. A government-issued ID (travel document issued in English);
  2. Passport-size photo (.jpeg format);
  3. Motivation statement;
  4. Your bank card to pay the fees.
Step 2. Submit Your Application
As soon as documents are collected, you can start filling out the application itself. It will include the data identified above, additionally, you will need to provide information on your current business activities (if you have any) and criminal background. Usually, the procedure doesn't take longer than 30-40 minutes.

Upon the successful submission, you will receive a confirmation email.

The state fee is €100 if you are located in Estonia. Otherwise, you will also need to pay the courier fee of €20.

Here, we need to point out that there are limited pickup locations for e-Residency cards. Unfortunately, you can receive it in person only in the Estonian Embassy or Estonian consulate. We highly recommend you to check the closest pickup location, in order to avoid further issues. And, of course, Enty is always here to help you open a company even without e-Residency.
Step 3. Application Review
As soon as you submit your application, the review will begin. Generally, Estonian Police & Border Guard Board will check your background, normally it takes 3-8 weeks. Sometimes they may request additional information, which may increase the processing time. If approved, in general, your e-Residency kit will be printed and sent to your pickup location.

Once the process is complete, you will receive the notification via email.
Step 4. Collect e-Residency Kit
When you are granted your e-Residency, you will be invited to the chosen pickup location to collect your e-Residency Kit.

Please note that only the owner of the company can pick up the e-Residency card, it can be done only in person, as you will submit your biometrical data. And also make sure to prepare your ID document.

The card can be stored in the pickup location for 6 months. If you do not have a pickup location in your country, you can arrange to collect the kit in another country. Please be sure your chosen pickup location is in a country or region you are legally permitted to enter.

And that's it! After that, you will be able to enjoy all benefits of e-Residency and there are plenty of them. But no matter how good e-Residency is, it won't solve all back-office struggles of your company, but Enty will.
